Next we will compute another measure of variability called the sample

standard deviation.

Definition: Sample Standard Deviation

The sample standard deviation is the positive square root of the sample

variance.

It is computed from the following formula.

Thus, if we know the value of the variance then we can compute the value of

the standard deviation by taking the positive square root of the variance.

Also, if we know the standard deviation, ten we can obtain the variance by

squaring the standard deviation.
