Chapter 3: Measures of Variability

Remarks:

Recall from Chapter 1 that sample values are obtained from a population. In

later chapters you will see that we use the sample mean and the sample

variance (standard deviation) to estimate the population mean and the

population variance (standard deviation), respectively. As a matter of fact,

we can use any of the computed statistics to estimate the corresponding

population parameter.
