Assuming Unequal Variance (Standard Deviation)

So far, we have assumed equal variances for the two normal populations in

order to test for the difference between the two population means.

What happens if we cannot assume equal variances?

The following procedurewill enable us to accommodate for this restriction.

There are tests we can use to determine whether the variances are equal or

not but will not be discussed in this chapter. Such tests will be presented in

Chapter 16. You can refer to Chapter 16 if you wish.
