Notes:

If the relative frequencies or the equivalent percentages are plotted

along the vertical axis to produce a relative frequency or percent

histogram, the shape of the resulting histogram will be the same as

that of a histogram in which the frequencies were plotted along the

vertical axis.

This is true because the relative frequencies are obtained by dividing

the frequency values by the total number of values in the data set.

Figure 1-18

shows the frequency and the relative frequency histogram for

the data given in

Example 1-3

with the relative frequencies plotted along the

vertical axis. Observe that the shapes of the frequency histogram and the

relative frequency histogram in

Figure 1-18

are identical in shapes. To

obtain a histogram and relative frequency histogram display together you

can use the

to generate the two graphs together.
