Note that if we trace a smooth curve at the top of the leaves, it will reveal a

bell shape curve. Hence, not only does the stem-and-leaf plot display the

actual values in the data set, it displays the shape of the distribution of the

population from which the sample was obtained.

We can use the

Stem-and-Leaf Plot for Raw Data

workbook to help

construct the plot. Enter the values in the data column, and the plot will

automatically be constructed. The plot is shown in

Figure 1-25

.

Another type of graph which we can use to display data is called a

time series

graph. This type of graphical display is used to present

quantitative data collected over a period of time.
